the brief

To celebrate the launch of Keith Haring: Voice of the Street, Moco Museum invited Caiger & Co to create a canapé and drinks experience for 250 guests at a preview event ahead of the exhibition opening to the public.

With Keith Haring’s work so closely connected to the streets and subway stations of New York, the brief was to create food that felt part of the exhibition experience rather than simply being served alongside it.

The menu and presentation were therefore designed with Haring’s distinctive visual language in mind: bold, contemporary and graphic, with a predominantly black-and-white palette punctuated by vibrant pops of colour.

The canapé menu was created to reflect the energy and visual character of the exhibition, with striking presentation and contrasting textures running throughout.

Guests were served:

  • Beetroot and juniper-cured salmon skewers with lemon cream cheese
  • Charcoal cones filled with La Latteria burrata, sundried tomato butter and black olive soil
  • Pea picklets with sour cream and wasabi caviar
  • Confit prawns on black tapioca crackers with nori seasoning
  • Manchego croquettes with charred corn, green Tabasco aioli and purple basil

The visual styling was just as considered as the food itself. Platters were specifically styled for the exhibition, using black and white as a base with bursts of colour to create a bold, graphic presentation inspired by Haring’s work.

Rather than using food stations, all canapés were served by the Caiger & Co team throughout the two-and-a-half-hour event, allowing the experience to remain fluid as guests explored the museum and exhibition.

a preview of what was to come

The event took place on 17 March, ahead of Keith Haring: Voice of the Street opening to the public on 18 March.

This meant creating a polished hospitality experience for a launch audience while ensuring the food complemented the artwork and atmosphere of the museum.

The result was an evening where the catering felt deliberately connected to its setting — from the menu itself through to the specially styled platters and visual presentation.

The client was delighted with the event, which successfully set the tone for the public opening of Voice of the Street the following day.
